I Fagiolini's Christmas Feast
Classical music
‘The sheer wit and charm of I Fagiolini's singing and acting tend to obscure the high musical standards involved in everything they do.' Guardian
‘I Fagiolini are without equal.' Independent
These singers, winners of the Royal Philharmonic Society Ensemble Prize 2006, bring their characteristic élan, style and humour to a beautifully varied feast of Christmas music from the Renaissance.
Their programme includes a fizzing staged 'salad' from Spain, motets by the masters Palestrina and Victoria and, closer to home, one of William Byrd's most effervescent and joyous works, Attolite Portas. Medieval mysticism from Hildegard of Bingen is matched by Poulenc's winter wartime cantata Un Soir de Neige, plus an unusual alternative to The Twelve Days of Christmas.
